Part 7

Choosing a Device Set — what each reveals and what it costs

Device items — rarity, size, collectible, color and slot devices
Device items — rarity, size, collectible, color and slot devices

All 17 Device Sets by price tier, and when silhouette, color and identity reveals or average and count readings pay off. Includes measured per-item costs.

Rules

Bringing a set is free; you pay only for the items you use, one per round.

  • One set per match. Each item can be used once, one item per round.
  • Use an item after that round's auctioneer and character information comes in and before you place your bid. Items you still have can be used in round 6 too.
  • The amount shown next to a set is the maximum cost if you use everything. Only the items you actually use are deducted at settlement.
  • Other players only see that "this player used a Device this round". Only you see the result.

Kinds of items

Reveal items expose specific spots, reading items measure the whole board, and Specials go straight for the biggest piece.

  • Reveals: Size (N silhouettes) · Rarity (N colors) · Collectible (N identities: silhouette + color + identity). They expose specific spots on the board.
  • Readings: count · average · total · slots. They measure the board as a whole. Gold total, Gold average and Purple total go straight into the Combo Finder.
  • Specials: Size (Special) = silhouette of the collectible that takes the most slots · Collectible (Special) = identity of that largest collectible · Total (Special) = price of that largest collectible · Top Collectible = identity of the highest-rarity collectible you have no information on yet.

Sets by price tier

How to choose (the sets the Playbook uses)

Advanced All-round for Pearl, Rarity sets for chasing high value, type sets on a budget, and in Shell no set is common.

  • Pearl all-round: Advanced All-round (50,000) — All-Round Haniel, All-Round Chiz. The 9-slot average (25,000) and Gold slots are rarely used, so actual spending is often under 20,000.
  • Pearl high-value hunting: Advanced Rarity (All-Round Daffodill) · Mega Rarity (Pendragon Run) · Best (Eternal Heart Run).
  • Coral and Pearl on a budget: Antique set (10,000) — Budget Hotori.
  • In Shell, going without a set is common — the Jiuyuan Suitcase/Scepter Search Run uses no Devices.
